06 Dec, 202206 Dec, 2022Wesley's Office HoursLaunched a side projectOver my work career, I've been in so many roles that it has given me a very unique perspective on various subjects related to tech, community, disability, race, work, and life.
I love to help people. It's like sweet, sweet candy. In the past, whenever I've gotten a request to chat from someone who either listened to one of my talks or found something I wrote online, I would generally say yes.
A little over six months ago, I started a high-pressure job at Amazon, and this candy is not just giving me the occasional stomach ache but cavities. I would work later to make time for these meetings or miss spending time with my family to squeeze it all in. At the same time, I was writing and giving more talks and recording more podcasts.
As I produce more public-facing work, I create more of these consultation requests. To solve this issue, I created Wesley's Office Hours. It allows me to keep helping others while creating a healthier work-life balance. In addition, the hosts (Matt Stratton, Jeremy Meiss, and Dan Maher) will provide color commentary, much like a modern day Cotton McKnight and Pepper Brooks (announcers from Dodgeball).
The goal here is to have fun and not take things too seriously. A live streamed game show that is most definitely a ridiculous idea, but hopefully entertaining.
