I participated in the Out in Tech Digital Corps June 2021, an annual event to build websites for LGBTQ+ activists (and this year, queer-owned businesses & start-ups.) I contributed to a team building a fully functioning website for a biotechnology company working on a technology that can visualize the human proteome. The primarily goals were to establish a clean, professional website for the co-founders and board to use while pursuing the next stages of funding and employee recruitment for their organization.
I contributed my time and skills working collaboratively with a remote team of volunteers using Wordpress, Figma, and other digital tools to craft a complete website by the end of the event. My specific responsibilities were constructing the 'careers' recruitment page, populating the page with the appropriate content and images, and assisting the lead designer with crafting and implementing a cohesive visual design system across the site. I also assisted teammates with various tasks, providing feedback when needed.
The team worked together remotely from all over the world using Zoom, Slack channels, and shared Google Docs to assign and complete tasks. It was so much fun to work with other creative humans, and I even learned a few new things along the way!
