Tim Riley's most recent book treats the Beatles as Sixties avatars in WHAT GOES ON: THE BEATLES, THEIR MUSIC AND THEIR TIME (with Walter Everett, Oxford University Press), which include his influential multi-media Listening Guides to Beatles tracks. In 2011, the NEW YORK TIMES hailed his “masterly” biography, LENNON: MAN, MYTH, MUSIC, as a "critical tour-de-force." His other books include TELL ME WHY: A BEATLES COMMENTARY (Knopf/Vintage 1988/9, Da Capo 2002); HARD RAIN: A DYLAN COMMENTARY (Knopf/Vintage1992/3, updated Da Capo edition 1999); MADONNA: ILLUSTRATED (Hyperion 1992); and FEVER: HOW ROCK'N'ROLL TRANSFORMED GENDER IN AMERICA (Picador 2005). His music commentary can be heard on National Public Radio's HERE AND NOW and ON POINT, from WBUR-FM Boston. He contributes regularly to the LOS ANGELES REVIEW OF BOOKS. Since 2009, he has taught digital journalism at Emerson College, and heads up its Graduate program in journalism.
