FruitBat 1.0.0175

Before launch of the PlayBook, BlackBerry provided a simulator that ran in a VirtualBox VM and a suite of command line tools.

Being a designer first, I didn't enjoy working only with the command line, so I made a automation tool that would do everything automatically.

Since BlackBerry hadn't made any UI tools available yet, I released it to the PlayBook developer community.

  3. FruitBat with an App Descriptor loaded. It displayed the app's icon, rendered as it would on the BlackBerry PlayBook simulator, the app's name and version, and a switchable Action button for one-click app packaging and automatic installation to the PlayBook Simulator.
