🧠Language Scrum: a phenomenal way to ace multiple objectives.

I'm a fan of any activity that brings together team members, helping them get to know one another better that is simultaneously fun and a learning experience for each person.

BeSafe Group, I present to you our new biweekly sessions of Language Scrum.

What is this new activity?

It consists of a 30min session that we'll run through Google Meet or in person at the office.

Three people from different teams will participate in each group. They'll have the opportunity to talk to one another in the language they want to improve: English, Spanish, or German. Hopefully, someday I'll be able to include Sinhala as well (as I'm the only team member who speaks it... for now!).

Each person can opt-in every two weeks and each time choose the language target. Allowing them to decide whether or not to participate makes sure this activity doesn't feel like an obligation.

Why is this new activity important?

1) Sometimes, teams risk becoming overly cohesive for a number of reasons, so we must always look out for stability;
2) It's essential that each person feels that it's okay to make mistakes, be open to guidance and feedback; living this experience together should contribute to a more open-minded approach as people learn to improve collectively;
3) We're launching our insurtech product in Spain. So what better moment to bring together all team members and help them feel ready and open to dialogue in Spanish?

Team-building activities obviously play a crucial role in organizations to encourage collaboration across teams and individuals. Nowadays, remote working is a stable solution for many companies and bringing people together to get them to know each other better is a priority more than ever.

Sometime later this year, I'll also organize a Digital Tools Scrum - maybe combined with the Language Scrum!
