1. Cement
Cement is the basic and most essential component of concrete. Concrete is formed when cement is mixed with sand, stone and water, which hardens after drying. Apart from making concrete, cement is used for making walls, floors etc.

Cement is available in different types like- OPC (Ordinary Portland Cement), PPC (Portland Pozzolana Cement), 53 Grade, 43 Grade Cement etc. The cement used in construction should be of good quality.

2. Bricks
Bricks are used for walls, pillars, footings and other structures. Good quality bricks provide proper strength to the house. Nowadays, many types of bricks are being used, such as ordinary clay bricks, fly ash bricks, concrete bricks etc.

The standard size length, width and height of bricks are 190, 90, 90 mm respectively (7.5, 3.5, 3.5 inches), but generally the length, width and height of bricks available in the market are 9, 4, 3 inches.

3. TMT Steel
TMT bars or steel is an alloy whose main component is iron. It is used with concrete in structures like ceilings, pillars, beams etc. It is powerful, flexible and lasts a long time.
TMT steel rods are available in Fe 415 grade, Fe 500 grade and Fe 550 grade, which refers to the strength of the steel.

4. Sand and Coarse Aggregates
Sand or sand: Sand is a naturally occurring substance consisting of very small particles of broken rocks. Sand is extracted from the river bed and used for construction. It is used in concrete, asphalt. The use of a mixture of sand and cement is common for wall plaster. Fine sand is also used in the construction of ornamental structures, from which a variety of carving works are done both outsides and inside the house.

Stones: Half-inch-sized stones are called 'Coarse Aggregates', which are made smaller by breaking them from rocks using explosives and using machines. The smallest i.e. 6 mm stone, kitchen etc. are used for making slabs and visors, while half inch to 1 inch thick stone is used in roof, beam. Similarly, stone 1.5 by 2 inches (40–60 mm) is used for railroads.

5. Wood
The doors, door frames, windows, etc. of the house are made from the wood obtained from the tree or the plywood made from it. Nowadays aluminum panels and glass are also being used. Readymade doors and windows made of wood and plyboard are available in the market.

6. Plumbing fittings
For water supply systems, taps, and sewers and for drainage, GI pipes or PVC pipes are used. Such PVC pipes are used as water pipes and sewage pipes. Other items used in the toilet can be of PVC, ceramic and steel.

7. Electrical fittings
The building's fans, light bulbs, switch locations, and other equipments are 'wired' with power cables. For typical house wiring, 14 gauge copper wire is used whose thickness is 1.63 mm.
