The vocals are very warm and hold the interest throughout the album. The romantic ballad, Liquid Night, contains a very gorgeous strum and the O’Connell’s distinctive vocals and bohemian song writing in Wandering Girl remind me of vivid photojournalism. He is an established world-traveller and this is apparent in his mature approach to song writing and production. This book is for everyone who wants to learn more about the art of writing a song. Those who listened to music had an increase in divergent thinking, meaning they were more apt to develop and create new ideas, compared with the people who worked in silence. Students who listened to classical music for a half-hour before bedtime slept considerably better than those who listened to nothing. The second half of the “album” (at around 20 minutes long, it’s more like an EP, but still manages to cram in 9 songs) is better than the first, where some of the songs sound unfinished, and the raps are a little less polished. Tattletale Saints have an array of traditional instruments such as Double Bass, Mandolin and Harmonica to name a few and are very old school in performance style. Wellington’s Brockaflower (or Brockaflowersaurus-Rex and the Blueberry Biscuits to use their full name) have been getting a bit of hype around town lately, as they develop a reputation for a fun-filled live show (although I’m yet to see them live myself).
That’s not to say they’re not nice songs, and they’re all easy to listen to, but it would have been nice to see the energy maintained. It's nice to see musicians allowing the public the chance to hear them for free. For a nine-piece band, the music is surprisingly light and spacey; rather than everyone vying for attention on the album, these polished musicians know when to hold back and went to have their time to shine. How do you draw a light ray? The song peaked at no. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became Lopez's sixth top ten single in the U.S. Timeflies is an indie-pop-with-occasional-rap duo from Boston, and I am absolutely obsessed with how they transformed their mischievously romantic electronic single into the bittersweet acoustic melody featured here. נערות ליווי The album is using some of the best acoustic instruments you can find all gelled together into a moving masterpiece.
His solo music is subtle acoustic singer song writer stuff, a far cry from his period playing bass in kiwi punk band "Kill the Fake Patient". The band has spent the past couple of years playing at bars and café’s around Wellington, and the connection that’s formed between them as a result is evident throughout the EP. There’s definitely something catchy about their lo-fi, rough and raw, punk-ish tunes, it can just take a little work to get past that roughness, and not everyone’s going to have the patience to do that. Realism seems to be a favoured style of songwriting at the moment, with the popularity of artists such as Ed Sheeran, and in the past people like Damien Rice. O’Connell slots into this category nicely, and his work can be put right up there with these artists. Others might pay just $10 or so a month to access millions of songs and artists. This is a collection of songs that aren’t in a hurry, but instead unwind themselves over the course of a few minutes, meandering along and letting the arrangements speak for themselves. Even after a few listens, I’m not sure whether I’m a fan of the album as a whole.
Not being a fan of Irish style music makes Fell Upon the Fields my least favourite track. A Beatles style song with changing tempo to mix things up, from 4/4 to swing in an effortless shift. This song from Master of My Make Believe will inspire you to rise to the occasion against any would-be usurpers who want to come, show and prove you are wrong. We would then want to try and match as many items as possible to MusicBrainz at a later stage. To conclude, it is always important to reduce the noise level inside the car if you are going to enjoy the wonderful songs or if you want to talk with somebody in your car. His almost heavenly voice straight away makes me want to listen to more songs. This is certainly an album that will grow and needs more than one listen to fully appreciate.
