Within months, guided mentee - a career changer at first tech job - beginning with 1 line fix, how to run a virtual environment, to becoming a key contributor to highly visible pages, unit tests, and Storybook stories.

Connected mentee with frontend community - regular cross-team eng meeting, Slack “etiquette” for asking questions, "office hours" run by frontend staff engineer, and set up pairing sessions with her and frontend engineers on other teams.

Broke down project work into well-scoped tasks to work in parallel between the two of us. Go over task requirements and high level implementation, as well as pair 1:1 on implementation details to unblock.

Provided thorough code reviews, ensuring quality code that meets product requirements and code best practices. Teach by example through code review comments and own PR’s that mentee reviews.

I offered 15-minute one-on-one sessions with Scripps students interested in the tech industry through a Zoom event organized by Scripps CP&R. Most questions centered around resume feedback, getting new grad PM and UIUX roles, whether a bootcamp is worth doing, and increasing the chance of hearing back from job applications.

Mentored my frontend team's intern through a fullstack project

Introduced color theming by utilizing LESS compiled at run-time. Through project conceptualization, story definition, scope control, to final presentation, I was there every step of the way. Additionally, I made it a point to invite the intern to ask any questions they had about expectations, industry, or etiquette.

I streamlined the interview process so candidates received quicker responses and clearer feedback. I wrote the resume screening rubric, specific rejection email templates, coordinated with interviewers across engineering, and worked closely with HR and engineering upper management. Overall, I learned a lot about the "behind the scenes" of hiring and am eager to share what I know!
