I started today off by collaborating with colleagues across engineering as well as individuals outside of engineering to agree on the best solution to an issue we recently uncovered. This will become a recurring theme in my posts: if you want to become a better engineer, consistently work on improving your communication and collaboration skills! I can't stress enough how important these core skills are to a career in software engineering.

I also was able to spend a small portion of my day focused on contributing to ongoing efforts to improve Auth0's hiring processes. We strive to continue to make our hiring processes more equitable and objective. When I first started my career as a software engineer I never imagined that my passions would end up centering around hiring, onboarding, training, and mentorship; but here we are! 🙂

I set a goal for myself when I landed my first job in software engineering. I would earn my way to a Senior Software Engineer position and would aim to do so at a startup that reached a liquidity event. I recently attained this goal at Auth0!

When I was much younger my great uncle handed down a Bulova watch to me which was gifted to him after 20 years of service with his employer. While those types of tenures are practically unheard of nowadays, the idea of getting a watch to represent the time devoted to a career resonated with me. I also like the idea of being able to pass an item like this down to younger generations. Today I accepted delivery of my first Swiss-made watch to celebrate reaching one of my career goals! Remember to take time to pause and celebrate your wins along the way!
