A Professional Anticareerist Joins Polywork
As founder of The Anticareerist (originally known as whywork.org when it launched in 1999 under my pen name D. JoAnne Swanson) and an “unjobber,” I’m intrigued by this new “UnProfesssional” network. I’m happy to be an early adopter. Now I can even use the Anticareerist badge - which I just added - as a search tool.
As it happens, just before I found Polywork I was:
1) already planning to delete or hide my stodgy LinkedIn profile, and
2) already pulling together a new “digital garden” linking all my previously published work to my current work.
Something about getting more involved in the Ethereum ecosystem has convinced me that it’s time to just be myself online. Polywork gives me a good place to do that. I love the playful vibe on Polywork.
There’s no need to present myself strictly as a professional copy writer and editor just because editorial work brings in most of my income.
For that matter, there’s no need to highlight a tongue-in-cheek title like Professional Anticareerist just because it’s associated with my most well-known project. I’m also a music journalist, an Ethereum nerd, an animist, a polytheist, a contemplative monastic, an eldergoth, a feminist, a UBI/commons advocate, a small-scale investor, and so on. So I’m into this whole multiple-badges thing.
Right now my work is scattered all over the web, with much of it only searchable through archive.org, and much more collecting digital dust in my voluminous Notion and Scrivener files.
But I no longer have much reason to keep all my online projects separate from one another, in part because I’m not risking my income by connecting them all with my professional identity. I’ve been self-employed as a freelancer for over a decade now, after all, with happy clients. What are they going to do, fire me?
Next I’ll gather a special collection of my writings from 20+ years of work for my main projects: The Anticareerist, Black Stone Sanctuary, and Endarkenment. On my roadmap for 2022: Crones of Web3, a new project which will center on welcoming over-40 folks/elders into crypto.
I’ll use my ENS domain name, danicaswanson.eth, to link to all the things.
Looking forward to dark mode and other features on Polywork’s roadmap.
More updates soon.
