Skype for Panasonic VIERA
Launched at CES in 2010, I acted as the Skype design partner contact for Panasonic’s R&D team in Osaka, Japan - involving a memorable field trip to their offices there.
Most of the work involved updating their bespoke television UI to fit the Skype branding, iconography and color schemes, while considering how the remote control soft-keys could be mapped to frequently used actions within the app such as initiating calls or muting the microphone.
Making calls was a simple process and video and audio quality was good on both sides of the conversation. Quit out of the application and it lays dormant in the background — a pop-up window will appear in the corner if someone calls you.
