Building the team
I wanted to share a lightly-edited email I sent to my team of software engineers a few years ago. This was at a point when we were struggling with an above-average number of operational issues, while still needing to deliver projects on time. Several new hires had arrived, so help was on the way, but they were still coming up to speed. Plus, we'd recently reorganized teams, but there was ambiguity about where the lines were between two teams I needed to try to clear up.
