This piece is watercolor on 11x14 Bristol, drawn from reference (the same rope used in the Carrick Bend piece from the previous year). The coloration is a stylization, and there were additional accents of white gouache added.
This piece was created as a wedding present. I had some friends out of state that had invited me to their wedding ("tying the knot" as it were!). I happened to arbitrarily pick blue and purple because I thought the colors looked nice and it's just what I was feeling at the moment, but it ended up being their wedding colors, even, so that worked out really well!
