This guided meditation was recorded recently during one of the free online sessions I give three times per week. It is particularly well suited to curious beginner meditators or those coming into mindfulness having practiced other traditions.
In this recording I open with an introductory talk, which gives context before we start the meditation.
And I then guide a practice where we attempt to establish a sense of relaxation in resting on the sensations of the breath. Learning to be with our inhale and exhale, observing one breath cycle at a time, we become more intimate with the messages of our breath.
As one of my teachers likes to say: ‘breath is the language of our nervous system.’
I emphasise that when our minds wander off, it’s okay. Together we learn that the most important part of mindfulness practice is when we notice we’ve gone off somewhere and come back to our chosen anchor, or homebase. In this case, that means resting on the sensations of the breath.
