I've been actively using Linkedin for about 3 years now. I never really saw it as a tool for personal branding, nor set myself up in that direction. My taken on this has always been revolving around how can I add value to the community and to my connections. I believe realness is everything and personal branding starts from within. It's definitely not a textbook template you learn and adopt, nor a false impression you create.
For those new to LinkedIn, my advice is to "Be Real". And as much as possible, always aim to build deep and genuine relationships with the people you connect with here. Bring that relationship offline too. It will bring you a long way~
